Indications/Uses
Diben DRINK have been specifically designed for the dietary management of patients with or at risk of malnutrition in particular with impaired glucose tolerance such as in: insulin resistance due to acute or chronic diseases; Diabetes mellitus.
Special dietary needs: Diben DRINK are free from gluten, clinically free from lactose and purine, low in cholesterol and sodium. Hence Diben DRINK & CRÈME can be used in patients with special dietary needs for these nutrients.

Dosage/Direction for Use
As a sole source of nutrition the recommended daily dosage is 5 bottles (1500 kcal) for Diben DRINK. 1500 kcal are nutritionally complete in protein, essential fatty acids, dietary fibre, vitamins, minerals and trace elements. The dosage of course has to be adapted to the patients' individual needs. For children >3 years the responsible physician has to decide whether Diben or a paediatric enteral standard formula shall be used weighing the nutritional and metabolic impact. Careful monitoring of caloric, protein, fibre and micronutrient supply is mandatory when Diben is given to children.
For supplemental feeding: 2-3 bottles (900 kcal) per day are recommended for Diben DRINK. For supplemental nutrition in children >3 years: 1-2 bottles or 1-3 pots (cappuccino is not recommended because of the caffeine content).

Not suitable for patients with severe form of malassimilation.
Not suitable for patients with congenital inability to metabolise nutrients contained in Diben DRINK.
Special Precautions
Must be used under medical supervision..
Can be used for complete or supplementary enteral nutrition..
In the rare cases that Diben Drink may be used as a sole source of nutrition, mineral status of the patients should be monitored. Supplementation in particular of magnesium may be needed.
Not suitable for children under 3 years old.
Not suitable for parenteral nutrition.
Antidiabetic therapies should be adjusted according to the results of regular blood glucose monitoring. It may be necessary to adapt already implemented medical therapy when the nutrition regimen is modified (e.g. daily dose, feeding formula). In particular the transition from standard enteral formulas or from high carbohydrate diabetic enteral formulas may need a dose reduction of insulin or oral antidiabetic drugs.
